How much did Deadpool 2 make at the box office vs other movies?
By Sandy C.
The first weekend of Deadpool 2 is in the books! How much money did the sequel collect at the box office? Which records did it break?
What movie did you catch in theaters this weekend? With Avengers: Infinity War and now Deadpool 2, superheroes have taken over the movies. The Avengers have enjoyed three weekends at top of the box office, but now that Wade Wilson has arrived, it’s time to share the fame.
Here’s how Deadpool did this weekend, as well as the top ten movies…
When the first movie premiered in February 2016, it gathered $132 million over the weekend. Deadpool 2 did not do as well, collecting $125 million. In its defense, the difference isn’t too large, and there is a lot to consider. For starters, February is not nearly as busy as May. Deadpool 2 had a lot of competition, there are plenty of movies to catch in theaters. More so than in the month of February.
At the moment, Deadpool 2 proudly sits with $300.8 million worldwide. It was put together with a reported budget of $100 million, so it’s already enjoying a huge profit. However, there is strong competition on the way — Solo: A Star Wars Story.

For being its second weekend, Deadpool 2 SHOULD be on top once again next weekend, but it’s going up against a Star Wars movie, so it’s very unlikely. It is the summer season, though, everyone will be going to the movies for weeks to come and watch more than one feature.
Book Club and Show Dogs also premiered this weekend. While Book Club sits comfortably in third place with $13.5 million, Show Dogs (aka the worst movie of the year) flopped. The movie featuring talking dogs collected only $6 million. Its budget is now known, but it won’t be winning much more.
