The 5 best (and 3 worst) stand-ups on Netflix
By Sandy C.
Netflix has Original movies, television series, and plenty of stand-up specials, but they’re not all great.
What are your favorite programs to watch on Netflix? The streaming series has grown a lot from its first days. From only streaming series and films from other networks and studios, to now producing their own movies and TV series. And on the hilarious side of Netflix are stand-up specials!
Not all of these comedy specials are worth your time, though. Here are five to watch and three to skip…
The Best
John Mulaney
More from Netflix
- Bridgerton season 3: All the details to know about Penelope and Colin’s love story
- It’s a slow week on Netflix with only three new releases (Nov. 20)
- Exploding Kittens: From card game to Netflix animated series starring Tom Ellis
- The Crown and more Netflix shows and movies to stream this week (November 13)
- Escaping Twin Flames and more harrowing love-centered documentaries to watch on Netflix
John Mulaney is one of the funniest and best comedians today. If you haven’t check out his stand-up specials on Netflix, you’re missing out! In the streaming service, you’ll find New Kid Town (2012), The Comeback Kid (2015), and his latest Kid Gorgeous at Radio City (2018).
Dave Chappelle
Dave Chappelle’s comedies never get old. On Netflix, you’ll find Dave Chappelle: Equanimity & The Bird Revelation and specials from Chappelle’s personal vault: Dave Chappelle: The Age of Spin and Dave Chappelle: Deep in the Heart of Texas.
Donald Glover
Childish Gambino aka Donald Glover is everywhere today. He created and start in FX’s Atlanta, recently released new music, and he plays Lando in Solo: A Star Wars Story (out in theaters this Friday). His stand-up on Netflix, Weirdo, however, is not new. So, Netflix — could you give Glover a new stand-up asap? Thanks!
Ali Wong
What’s better than a comedian? A pregnant comedian. Well, that’s the case for Ali Wong, at least. In her first stand-up on Netflix, Baby Cobra, Ali Wong is pregnant and dropping some truth bombs about feminism and pregnancy. And in her second stand-up, Hard Knock Wife, she comes back pregnant again, and funnier than ever.
Tig Notaro
Tig Notaro is severely underrated! She’s real, hilarious, and incredibly sarcastic. If you enjoy dry and awkward humor and feeling uncomfortable, check out Tig Notaro’s Happy To Be Here.
