At the CBS Upfront last week, the network unveiled trailers for its fall shows. Here are my top four picks of new CBS shows for different preferences and needs.

CBS has a good mixture of new shows coming in fall 2018. Whether you want a reboot with a diverse and positive twist, want yet another procedural drama, or you’re looking for a drama a little like This Is Us, the network has your back. CBS shared its promos for the fall programs (no promos for midseason shows unlike some other networks), giving us an idea of what to expect in the new lineup.

After looking through promos and the details of the shows, here are my top picks for new CBS shows to check out in the fall.

Magnum P.I.

I know what you’re thinking: “Not another reboot.” It seems like all the networks are jumping on the bandwagon of reboots right now. One of the good things about reboots is the way they can bring life to old shows.

More from CBS

This is definitely one for those who loved the original and want to see it back on the air. Magnum P.I. is also a show for those who want reboots with a twist; something more modern that tackles diversity a little better. And it feels odd typing that when thinking about a show from CBS! But Magnum P.I. looks like it will bring it.

Jay Hernandez takes on the lead role in this reboot. You’ll recognize him from Bad Moms (and its sequel), Suicide SquadScandal, and much more. The series is also written and executive produced by Peter Lenkov, who is the mastermind behind the Hawaii Five-0 and MacGyver reboots. Okay, the latter isn’t doing as well as the former, but they’re still going on CBS.

Watch Magnum P.I. on Mondays at 9/8c.

God Friended Me

When you want something that is going to pull at the heartstrings and make you think, God Friended Me is going to be the show to watch. The series starts off quite light, but takes a darker turn as it gets set up–and this looks like its just the first episode!

Brandon Michael Hall is wiping off the disappointment of The Mayor and coming over as lead role, Miles, an atheist who gets a strange friend request from God. Initially, he deletes the request, but it keeps coming back. Once he accepts it, he starts getting friend suggestions for others. What he soon realizes is that these friend suggestions are all people who need his help in some way.

It looks like it’s going to be a beautiful tale and certainly sets up a This Is Us type of story. There are going to be plenty of tears, laughs, and screams throughout the season based on the promo.

Watch God Friended Me on Sundays at 8/7c.

FBI

For the procedural fans out there, FBI is one of the new CBS shows for fall. It’s taking over Bull‘s Tuesday night spot (moving Bull to Monday nights) to run in after NCIS. One of the biggest talking points of the series is that Dick Wolf is running the show. He’s usually seen over on NBC with the likes of Chicago Fire and Law & Order. This is a big move.

The series stars Missy Peregrym and Jeremy Sisto as two FBI operatives. They find themselves deep into a conspiracy from the start and need to find out who is setting off bombs and why. The trailer hints at a lot of discussion about racism and misogyny throughout the series.

It’s already going through a casting change. Connie Nielsen decided to step away from the project just days after the first promo was released. There is no current news on a new actress taking on her role.

Watch FBI on Tuesdays at 8/7c.

Happy Together

For the Damon Waynes Jr. fans out there, Happy Together is the new comedy coming to CBS and the one you want to look out for. CBS hasn’t had much luck with comedies in recent years–unless you count a spin-off of a top comedy–so there’s a lot riding on this (and fellow freshman comedy, The Neighbors).

One thing that had me questioning the series was One Directioner’s Harry Styles as executive producer, but it looks like his background may be what helps a particular character’s storyline more realistic.

Happy Together is about a married couple who welcome a musician into their home. The muscian just happens to be a client of Waynes Jr.’s Jake, who needs to lay low and away from the press after his public breakup. Will it turn out to be a disaster or a way to help their marriage thrive?

Watch Happy Together on Mondays at 8:30/7:30c.

Next: 6 new shows coming to ABC to watch

I haven’t counted Murphy Brown as one of teh new CBS shows, although it’s one I’ll be watching. It’s a revival with the original cast, so doesn’t count as “new.”
