Godzilla sequel gets a new release date
By Aedan Juvet
The upcoming sequel to the 2014 film Godzilla has been pushed back to a summer 2019 release date.
Godzilla lovers will have to wait for another whole year before we get a chance to see the kaiju king return to the big screen, but it’s sure to be worth the wait. Godzilla 2 was originally slated or a March 22, 2019 release but it has been confirmed that Legendary Pictures has since shifted the date to May 31, 2019.
By moving the film’s release date to the end of May and beginning of June does at least show optimism from the studio because it marks the start of summer blockbuster season. This also gives it a better chance by placing it several weeks after the highly anticipated Avengers Infinity War Part 2 – and what better way to begin summer than with the king of the monsters taking on a slew of other iconic foes?

The film will pit Godzilla against Mothra, Rodan and a personal favorite – King Ghidorah with a clash so epic that kaiju fans everywhere will be dying to witness. Of course, we will always be team Godzilla, but it will still be nice to see him up against several worthy opponents for the title of king of all monsters. Recently the film’s director Michael Dougherty tweeted out an image that instantly struck a nerve with fans of the Godzilla universe showing a vague image over the ocean labeled “Monster Zero” a reference fans of the original will catch quickly from Planet X.
