Questions that The Bachelorette season 14 may address
By E. Smith
Set against the backdrop of one of the most astonishing Bachelor breakups in recent memory, Becca Kufrin commences her own journey for love as the fourteenth bachelorette of the reality-television dating franchise.
Kufrin’s decision to forge her own path doesn’t necessarily imply an effortless one, however. Her season may address several questions central to building a harmonious romantic relationship, like how much time we should spend to reflect on ourselves or a prior relationship before dating someone new and how we can learn from a breakup to avoid pitfalls in our next relationship.
The new season of The Bachelorette may even enlighten audiences as to how they can stay resilient through onerous personal challenges (e.g. a breakup coupled with significant media attention). Although most audience members may not have the experience of their relationship becoming a topic for tabloids, many people can likely relate to having a breakup discussed among friends or community members, and Kufrin’s season could help these audience members determine how to respond.
On a similar note, if the series effectively addresses these issues, then, in a sense, it will provide insight into some of its core questions, including how people can truly fall in love over the course of a reality-television show, why some relationships formed on this show become successful as opposed to others, and the extent to which pursuing romance on The Bachelorette influences the personal growth of its cast and the bachelorette’s relationship itself.

Furthermore, answering each of these questions effectively can do more than entertain viewers, but educate them regarding how to approach relationships effectively and remain strong in the face of considerable adversity. Kufrin’s season also seems like the perfect vehicle to address these issues, and though it may prove challenging to devote time to each, it’s rational to anticipate that these subjects will manifest in some capacity throughout the show.
