10 shows ending soon: Whose next season will be their last?
Many of the shows ending soon have been falling short in ratings and views, but others have been rising in popularity and are now getting the boot.
Networks are canceling their shows left and right. While some have seen falling ratings, others are seeing a rise in popularity. There are shows like Adventure Time, being aired since 2010, and shows that have only been on the air since 2015, like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
These shows have one thing in common; every show on this list shares the fact that they will be ending soon.

Going into its 10th season, Adventure Time has been a popular series from the start. The show tells a collection of adventures embarked on by a boy called Finn the Human and his (adopted) brother and shape-shifting best friend, Jake the Dog.
Although the series was wildly popular with viewers of all ages, it still is coming to an end. Adventure Time is said to be going on through this season during 2018, but it will be its last.
Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
This April, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was renewed for a fourth season. The series follows an educated but mentally ill lawyer that runs into an ex-boyfriend who is moving out of town and decides to follow suit.
Despite winning multiple awards, such as two Emmy Awards, a Critic’s Choice Award, and being nominated for many more, the show will be coming to an end with its fourth and final season.
The Fosters
The Fosters has been known as a show that has pushed boundaries socially and societally and will be dearly missed by many fans. The series features a foster family with three kids raised by two moms, where delinquent teenager Callie Jacob is taught what family truly feels like.
Because the series did so well, although it is still ending after this season, a select few cast members received a spin-off based upon The Fosters. Maia Mitchell (left) and Cierra Ramirez (right) will star in their own show called Good Trouble, which is still in the making but is rumored to air in 2019.
Game of Thrones
If you haven’t heard of Game of Thrones, you’ve seriously been living under a rock. Based off of a book series, the show has been a hit since being aired on HBO. It’s a fantasy drama, that doesn’t particularly focus on one or a couple main characters, but focuses on a few main themes: good and evil, historical fiction, death and war, and many more.
The books have aided in most of the plot’s details, which is a possible reason why they didn’t extend the show much past the novel’s storyline. Its eighth season will be its last, premiering in 2019 on HBO.
Gotham
Gotham is a crime and drama series based upon the Batman franchise. The story begins with newly transferred detective James “Jim” Gordon, attempting to rid the city of Gotham of its endless crime. The series follows many characters and their origin stories, such as several Batman villains along with the main character James Gordon.
Although the series was nominated for multiple awards and won three (a Critic’s Choice Award, a Gracie Award, and a Creative Arts Emmy), the series was still decided to end after its fifth season. The release date is still to be determined.
House of Cards
House of Cards is a political drama and thriller series, adapted from a novel and a U.K. series made in the 1900s, all by the same name. The plot surrounds a Democratic congressman named Frank Underwood who craves power and control.
Sexual allegations against the main actor, Kevin Spacey, led to the eventual cancellation of the show. The show will go on, but not for long. Spacey was fired from the show, but Netflix announced a sixth and final season to be aired later this year.
iZombie
iZombie was originally known as a comic book series but was adapted in 2015 to create a loosely based television series. The show is about a medical resident named Olivia Moore who gets her life turned upside down when she’s turned into a zombie at an innocent party.
Although the series won a couple of awards, a Teen Choice Award, and a Leo Award, the show won’t be airing for much longer. Rumor has it that paralleled series, Santa Clarita Diet, is a reason for its cancellation. iZombie will air its fifth and final season in early 2019.
Jane the Virgin
Jane the Virgin is an American telenovela and genre-stretching from romantic comedy to satirical drama. The series is loosely adapted from a Venezuelan telenovela called Juana la Virgen. The story follows a twenty-some aspiring teacher/writer named Jane Villanueva, religious and hard working. Everything changes when a freak accident occurs, instead of getting a normal check-up one day, she gets accidentally artificially inseminated with a stranger’s sperm.
With season four’s crazy plot twist/ending, it would have been plain cruel if the writers and producers ended the story there. Thankfully, there will be a fifth season, but it will likely be the show’s last. The premiere date is yet to be released.
The Originals
The Originals began with the series The Vampire Diaries, where the main character Niklaus “Klaus” Mikaelson from The Originals emerged. The show features a family of Original Vampires, the few very first vampires ever created. The storyline follows the family, friends, and enemies of the Originals and their deathly day-by-day.
The supernatural series will come to an end with its final season, whereas fans’ love of Klaus and Elijah will always stay alive.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is a Netflix Original sitcom, which follows Kimmy Schmidt in her life adjusting to the Big Apple after being rescued from a doomsday cult. The dramedgy has spanned three seasons so far and is just around the corner from its fourth.
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s fourth season will be its last, with Netflix airing the first half of the season on the 30th of May.
