Here’s a look back at the 8 worst summer blockbusters of the 2010s.

Thus far, the summer blockbusters released in 2018 have been really good. Two of this year’s most hyped releases, Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2, both exceeded expectations. Even the season’s most disappointing release, Solo: A Star Wars Story, was better than most films that change directors mid-way through production. Remarkably, we’re now one month into the year’s most lucrative movie release window without a single career-ending or franchise-ruining blockbuster coming out. The fact is notable given that the 2010s have produced a slew of record-shattering blockbuster flops.

Since things are going so well, now seems a good time to look back at some of the worst summer blockbusters of this decade. As opposed to earlier eras, the 2010s have produced a diverse array of box office bombs and critically reviled budget busters. There have been bad superhero movies, terrible sequels, awful remakes, and a couple of expensive franchise starters that decidedly did not.

Before we begin, a note about methodology. This list is comprised of the worst summer blockbusters from 2010 till 2017. For purposes of this list, summer blockbuster season is using the Hollywood release schedule definition of summer, meaning all films on this list were released sometime between mid-April and late August. And though box office performance is a factor, this list is more about overall quality than just financial return.
