We stan one #SaveShadowhunters legend, and his name is Santiago from Netflix customer support in Nicaragua, and he’s now joined the Shadowhunters fandom.

Throughout the past week, Shadowhunters fans have taken to social media and network sites to fight back against the show’s cancellation. Through organized efforts within the fandom, people were encouraged to (respectfully) reach out to Freeform, Netflix and Hulu, asking whomever would listen about their love for the series and the impact it’s made in their lives. The goal has been to get the attention of anyone who could have the power to decide the renew the show for a fourth season, but most of the calls and messages are first heard by customer service representatives, who quickly became aware of Shadowhunters in the hours following the cancellation announcement.

To raise awareness and morale, some fans started posting screenshots of their Netflix support chats on Twitter to show others what to say and to document conversations that brought hope to the fans, but they realized that many of the screenshots had something in common: they were talking with a Netflix customer support team member named Santiago in Nicaragua. Almost overnight, Santiago emerged as something of a celebrity in Shadowhunters community, and he loves it.

Turns out someone told Santiago he was growing in popularity within the fandom, because shortly after the show was canceled, he reached out to identify himself on Twitter.

We imagine that when you receive so many extra messages a day specifically about Shadowhunters, you start to predict where the conversation will head in the next customer support chat. Before customers (aka Shadowhunters fans) could even start to type, Santiago would just ask “Shadowhunters?” to the user. Representing Netflix, Santiago offered words of hope and encouragement for fans, promising that their voices and message were being heard by the company.

He wasn’t annoyed by the persistence of messages though. He says he loved getting to talk with so many people around the world who were passionate about what they love, tweeting, “Thank you all for being so supportive and overall sweet. Its so beautiful honestly. I had people all over the world talking to me today. It’s been so great.”

Turns out the fans were pretty persuasive about their love for the show too, because after talking with so many people in Shadowhunters fandom about the popular, recently cancelled fantasy series, he decided to watch the show himself and tweet about his experience. The Shadowhunters fandom, like many other fandoms, is know for its creative use of gifs and memes, so of course the Santiago memes started popping up on Twitter — and he loves those too.

Welcome to the fandom, Santiago!
