Lucifer the musical? Showrunner Ildy Modrovich has hinted that there may be an all-musical Lucifer episode coming up, maybe even in season 4 on Netflix!

On Twitter, one Lucifan, Caroline, shared a video of a fan in Rome at a Lucifer event, asking Tom Ellis about a possible musical episode. She asked Modrovich what she thought about the possibility for a musical episode for season 4, which will now air on Netflix. Modrovich, who herself spent her 20s fronting the band The Heavy Woolies claims that she “called dibs two years ago.”

“Well, you KNOW I would love to get on the musical episode. Called Dibs two years ago, in fact. We’ll see how it goes…then…Lucifer the Musical on Broadway?? #LuciferSaved.”

More from Netflix

How did music become such a huge part of Lucifer? According to Tom Ellis spoke to the BBC after Fox cancelled Lucifer, the musical numbers were added to the show only after the Lucicast went out for an after work event.

After a few libations and a little karaoke, Somehow the showrunners realized that they could add an extra layer to Lucifer’s character with a musical number. And clearly, Lucifans love the songs.

Here are five of the most memorable musical performances from the first three seasons of Lucifer.

“I Will Survive”

In the season 3 episode, “Let Pinhead Sing,” Lucifer finds himself in a sing off with Axara (Skye Townsend), a young pop star that he is protecting, In a theatrical performance befitting a Baz Luhrmann musical, Axara begins to belt out the classic Gloria Gaynor number, with Lucifer dramatically playing against her.

“Knocking on Heaven’s Door” and “Heart and Soul”

At the end of the season 1 episode ” A Priest Walks Into a Bar,” a solitary Lucifer morosely plays the Bob Dylan number without singing the words. But the mood dramatically changes when Chloe arrives. The two have a “moment” before playfully performing the childlike “Heart and Soul,” turning this scene into a fan favorite.

“Eternal Flame”

In the hysterical season 2 episode “Candy Morningstar,” Lucifer needs to prove something to his family. Meanwhile, the Heavy Woolies (a Lucijoke here) singer is murdered and Chloe pushes Lucifer away, telling him that she doesn’t need him around. Yet through the 90s music that Lucifer knows Chloe so loves, he devilishly lets her know what she means to him. As he sings the classic song by The Bangles, the two lock eyes in a magical moment. Although we all know that technically this song was released at the end of the 80s, but who is going to argue with God’s favorite son?

“All Along The Watchtower”

Was this a nod or not? In a podcast interview last year, Ildy Modrovich had revealed that they wrote the part of Lucifer’s mom with former Battlestar Galactica Cylon Six actress Tricia Helfer in mind, so getting her to play the role was the icing.

Yet, in the season 2 premier “Everything’s Coming Up Lucifer,” where Ellis performs the classic Dylan song. Helfer explained to TVLIne that it was not intentional nor a nod to the classic dystopian remake who used this song repeatedly.

“Sinner Man”

In Season 1, episode 6 entitled “Favorite Son,” Lucifer performs a very earnest “Sinner Man,” a song that is most made famous by Nina Simone.

What song would Tom Ellis like Lucifer to perform in the future? According to Digital Spy, Ellis would like to perform Radiohead’s “Creep,” because he finds the lyrics “fitting.”

After Netflix saved Lucifer, delighting Lucifans, co-showrunners Ildy Modrovich and Joe Henderson have begun to reveal bits and pieces about the storyline for season 4 on the streaming service. Formally, they have revealed that Lucifer season 4 will be an “amazing story” told in the 10 episode season. Yet, this does not mean the end of Lucifer. They had pitched a full season to Fox, which means that this will be divided into two seasons, depending on whether Netflix renews Lucifer.

Next: What changes could Lucifans expect now Lucifer is on Netflix?

The writing team is meeting up soon and production of Lucifer is expected to begin in August. Lucifans are especially excited to see what happens next as season 3 ended with Chloe seeing Lucifer’s devil face for the very first time. Could an all-musical episode convey the complicated feelings that Chloe presumably will have now that she knows the truth?
