Timeless officially canceled but it might not be the end of the road
By Callum Gunn
Timeless has officially been canceled but it could be coming back sooner than what you might think. There is still hope to #SaveRufus.
The news that every ClockBlocker has been fearing has arrived. Timeless has officially been canceled. Officially announced today, the campaign to #SaveRufus #RenewTimeless has not succeeded. Or at least the #RenewTimeless part anyway. Although the TV series has officially been canceled, there is still hope to save Rufus.
#SaveRufus has been a major part of the campaign to renew the series and there is still hope that this will happen as talks to give some closure to the fandom have been underway.

Anyone familiar with Firefly will know exactly where this is going. When they were canceled after only one season, it left a lot of fans wanting closure. The series was canceled with a lot of questions unanswered. Eventually, a movie was commissioned, Serenity, which was aimed at bringing closure to the Firefly series.

It looks like Timeless will be going the same way. According to Deadline, a two-hour movie to resolve the cliffhanger, and hopefully save Rufus, has been discussed with the aim of bringing sufficient closure to Timeless. This is similar to Shadowhunters, which has been canceled after three seasons with the promise of a TV movie to answer the questions left with the still-to-air Season 3 finale.
It’s not exactly an ideal outcome for the fandom but some closure is better than no closure if it’s handled correctly. No doubt fans will be initially disappointed after all the hard campaign to #RenewTimeless #SaveRufus these past several months and will initially reject the idea, but, after some time, they may warm to the idea of the movie.
