Supernatural Season 14 production prep has started. Just when will the filming start and finish?
The break is over for the production team, as Supernatural Season 14 production prep has started. It was all about the quote-of-the-day board last week, with fans sharing their wishes for the new symbol. Now we have a beautiful symbol that connects to various wishes and ideas for the 14th season.
Of course, with the quote board came the confirmation that Supernatural Season 14 will only have 20 episodes. The 13th episode is definitely the 300th. We’ve not had confirmation as to why the shorter season has been ordered, but it will affect the filming. It will mean less time filming new episodes, which leads us to when filming will start and finish.

According to Supernatural Wiki, filming begins on July 10. This is about standard for the CW series and it will likely mean that we’ll get the gag reel from the previous season at San Diego Comic Con 2018 rather than the opening minutes of the 14th season as there wouldn’t be that much time to film and edit the opening moments.
Filming is expected to continue until March 26. This is based on the fact that it takes eight days to film one episode–working days, not including the weekends and the holidays. Previous seasons have gone into April to film for the extra episodes and the filming is why there’s usually a break around February/March to give production time to catch up before the finale days set in May.
Supernatural Season 14 will start shooting on July 10th, and go through until March 26th . The premiere will air on October 11th and it will air on Thursday night at 8pm.

It looks like despite a 20-episode season, we’ll still get a May finale date. This suggests the network still has high hopes for Supernatural and it’s something behind the scenes that has led to a reduced episode order. I’m hoping that it’s a way to keep Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki filming longer for more seasons of Supernatural but so they can see their families more. I’d rather have shorter seasons than no series at all.
