Grace Park is returning to television in ABC’s freshman series A Million Little Things. It’s a role that’s been recast since the pilot was picked up to series and here’s all you need to know.

A Million Little Things is one of ABC’s biggest pilots for the season. About how a group of friends reconnect and find themselves after the suicide of one of their own, the series is set to take on the likes of NBC’s This Is Us. However, when the pilot was picked up to series last month, one of the actresses dropped out. Anne Son decided to leave the project, leaving the role of Katherine open. Grace Park returns to TV after a year off to take on the role.

The last we saw of Park on TV was in Hawaii Five-0 Season 7. Last season certainly wasn’t the same without her but now we get to see her grace our screens again (no pun intended). She’ll play Katherine, originally the “fun one” in the group. However, after having her son and taking on the career as a high profile lawyer, she’s lost part of herself.

It’s also not helping that Katherine is dealing with a husband who once had a highly successful music career but has floundered. Now she’s trying to juggle work and motherhood while supporting the whole family. As she succeeds in one part of her life, she feels she’s failing in another. As a working mother, this is certainly something I can relate to and is the character I’m drawn to the most in A Million Little Things so far.

The series is going to be the emotional drama of the season. When a group of people meet in an elevator one day, their whole lives change. Some succeed, some don’t, and they realize after the death of one of them that they’ve grown apart. However, it’s that death that pulls them together and makes them realize that it’s “a million little things.”

Seeing a change of cast between pilot and series filming isn’t uncommon. There are many reasons this would happen, including the original cast member no longer wanting to be part of the series or the casting directors deciding the original cast member doesn’t work. Big-name shows have been through changes since the pilot, including Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Charmed.
