It appears that Days of our Lives is losing Stephen Nichols due to those pesky contract agreements.

Stephen Nichols has been playing the role of Steve Johnson on Days of Our Lives off and on since 1985. Now he is apparently exiting the NBC soap due to failed contract negotiations, according to She Knows SoapsHe has not been seen filming since March when his contract ran out, so his last days on air will be sometime in September.

Nichols’ longtime character has been a mainstay for years. His pairing with Mary Beth Evans as wife, Kayla, has been a fan-favorite as well. It seems that the actor and the execs at NBC could not come up with an agreement that suited both parties.

This will be a huge loss for Days of Our Lives fans who have watched Stephen Nichols throughout the years as Steve Johnson. However, there may be some General Hospital fans who are hoping that ABC will grab him up to reprise his role as Stefan Cassadine that he played in the late 90’s.

He joins a growing list of actors who are leaving the soap. Marci Miller announced her departure a few weeks ago. The show is bringing back Kate Mansi to replace Miller in the role of Abigail soon. In addition, Bryan Dattilo is exiting his role as Lucas Horton after 25 years of playing this character.

There is no word yet on how Steve Johnson will be written off the show. He is currently battling blindness, so maybe he ends up going away to get some kind of treatment. A recasting would not be too well accepted by fans.
