Fans celebrate a decade of destiel throughout July

Destiel fans are taking to Twitter throughout July to celebrate the decade of their ship. It’s also a chance to celebrate the arrival of Castiel and angels.

Supernatural Season 14 starts filming on July 10 and it’s been 10 years since Castiel was introduced in the show. One of the best introductions the series has ever seen, Castiel brought a number of new fans into the series and he’s become the main reason for others sticking around. For many, the arrival of Castiel gave birth to the ship Destiel. Because of that, many fans are celebrating a decade of Destiel on social media with the hashtag #DecadeofDestiel.

There are people for and against the ship. While not technically officially canon, there have been plenty of nods to it. It was even brought up in the 200th episode, “Fan Fiction,” which made many extremely happy. “Tombstone” was the most recent episode that had the Destiel shippers excited, especially with that “angry bear” comment about Dean.

For the month of July, Destiel shippers around the world are sharing their love for the ship across social media. Using the hashtag #DecadeofDestiel, they’re sharing fan art, fan fiction, comments about why the ship is so important to them, and so much more. It’s all about the profound bond between the two characters.

This is something everyone who loves the ship can get involved in. There’s no need to be artistic. You don’t need special software to create videos or graphics. What you can do is share others’ posts. Of course, always include the original artist–this is important whatever you do! Take the extra step to find out where the individual is on Twitter, especially when it comes to fan art and videos. Fan fiction is often done anonymously, so you may struggle a little more, so include the author name from the fan fiction site you read on.

Remember that not all Destiel shippers want the same thing. There are many opinions and ideas about this ship and about whether it should become official canon on the show. Either way, #DecadeofDestiel is just a way for the fans to come together and enjoy the ship that they have in common. If you don’t agree with the ship, you can always just scroll past or mute the hashtag. There’s no need to be mean!

This is also a chance to celebrate the introduction of Castiel and angels. It’s been 10 years since we had angels come into the show and Supernatural Season 14 will see one of the biggest storylines yet with Michael taking over Dean.
