Box office: The top 10 movies of the weekend (besides Ant-Man and the Wasp)

Marvel never fails to deliver at the box office. Its 20th Marvel Cinematic Universe release, Ant-Man and the Wasp, took over theaters this weekend. What other movies made the top 10?

Ant-Man and the Wasp collected $76 million domestically. Add in foreign box office numbers, and it has a total of $161 million, but it’s just getting started. The 20th MCU film has yet to be released in theaters everywhere. Over the next several weeks, Ant-Man and the Wasp will premiere in more markets. The movie will surely continue to break bank, and it already has accumulated more than its predecessor — The first Ant-Man (2015) debuted to $57.2 million.

The box office number are in! Here’s how other movies did this weekend…

When a Marvel movie premieres, other studios stay clear out of its way. But on Wednesday night, just in time for the Fourth of July, The First Purge premiered. Debuting before Ant-Man and the Wasp‘s big weekend was a smart move, but it didn’t really do much for the movie.

The movie didn’t do too bad, though. With a budget of $13 million, The First Purge had a $17.1 million weekend. Its worldwide total is now $41.9 million. The movie settled for fourth place.

Meanwhile, behind Ant-Man and the Wasp is Incredibles 2. The long-awaited sequel continues to amaze, collecting $29 million this weekend. The animated movie now has $772.7 million worldwide. Will it be breaking $1 billion before it leaves theaters?

In third, you’ll find Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdomwith a $28.5 million weekend. The second movie in the new Jurassic trilogy may not have been well-received by critics or fans, but it has now passed $1 billion worldwide at the box office.
