Nowadays, Hollywood is busy creating sequels, reboots, and remakes. But Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation has no issue navigating through, and defeating, franchise fatigue.

Movie sequels are rarely ever better than the original. And the third movie have an even worse rep than the first sequel. But Hotel Transylvania 3 beats the odds. Audiences continue to enjoy anything Count Dracula (voiced by Adam Sandler) and his cute family are up to, keeping fans, both big and small, entertained.

In the Hotel Transylvania 3, Mavis (Selena Gomez) books a vacation for her family and friends. Mavis want family time and to create memories, but her main intention is to give her dad a much needed break. Workaholic Dracula is a busy man. He never stops, and no one knows this better than his daughter. But there is something else missing from Dracula’s life than relaxation — love.

It doesn’t take long after boarding the ship for Dracula to “zing,” the monster’s term for falling in love or love at first sight. This is something Dracula never thought would happen, believing you only “zing” once in your life. However, he is encouraged by friends not to give up on love. But what will over-protective daughter Mavis have to say about her dad’s new crush? There’s jealousy, sure, but Mavis quickly senses something if off about Dracula’s love interest, Ericka.

Ericka (Kathryn Hahn) is charming and very friendly. She seems to share an equal interest in Dracula, but that may only be because of her last name — Van Helsing. That’s right, Ericka is part of the Van Helsing family, aka Dracula’s mortal enemy.

More from Movies

The Hotel Transylvania movies have never asked too much from audiences. They are simple, easy to follow movies. The colorful characters are goofy, the theme is always family love, and there’s always a happy ending. Children love simple movies like these, they’re curious to see what their favorite characters are up to this time. And even when the plot takes a slightly dark turn (Dracula’s assassination attempt with garlic, for example) there’s a laugh waiting around the corner to ease young one’s fears. In Dracula’s garlic situation, it was stomach troubles.

As for a giant monster destroying everything in its path as it threatens to kill Dracula and all monsters present? Nothing like “Macarena” by Los Del Rio to put a smile on everyone’s face.
