4. Doctor Strange

Original Release Date: November 4, 2016

Box Office Earnings: $85,058,311 (USA opening weekend ), $232,641,920 (USA gross)

Critical Acclaim: Doctor Strange was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Achievement in Visual Effects. It was also nominated for three Golden Globes.

In total, the Marvel production has won 20 awards and gained 65 other nominations including the ones mentioned above.

About the Role: Dr. Stephen Strange is an excellent doctor but an awful human being. He views himself as a god within the surgical world, but that means he’s arrogant and egotistical outside. After an accident, there’s a chance that he will never be able to work as a surgeon again and that doesn’t sit well with him. He goes in search for anything and everything that will get his abilities back. What he ends up with is power beyond the imagination.

Simply the Best: Doctor Strange is certainly a popular movie for many in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It took on a slightly different focus to many of the others, showing the origins of a superhero that isn’t known as well outside of the comic fan base. We also got an anti-hero of sorts — someone who only gains his powers for selfish reasons and realizes that he has to do good.

This is one of those Marvel movies that you get away with knowing absolutely nothing about the others. You can just sit back and enjoy. Oh, but don’t expect to like the character for the most part.
