Brooklyn Nine-Nine (Fox / NBC)

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a show that is so completely cherished by fans that – when it was cancelled by Fox back in May – it was resurrected with a sheer groundswell of pure, unadulterated love. In fact, the cancellation didn’t last 24 hours before NBC agreed to pick it up for a sixth season. Nine-Nine fans around the world rejoiced.

Why is this show so beloved? Well, where do I start? The diverse yet non-stereotyped cast provides much-needed representation on network television. While the characters on the show work in a high stress environment of a police precinct, they always take time out to assess emotions, process feelings, and genuinely check in with one another – a true rarity in entertainment. These practices help illustrate what healthy support systems look like, all while making us laugh with abandon. Brooklyn Nine-Nine shows that the some of the truest delights in life exist in respectfully exploring differences, and that there’s incalculable worth in fostering relationships that bring out the best in us.
