Will Jeremy Renner’s William Brandt return in Mission: Impossible 7?
By Sandy C.
William Brandt (Jeremy Renner) was nowhere to be seen in Mission: Impossible – Fallout. Will he make his return in the seventh installment?
First of all, will there even be a seventh chapter in the Mission: Impossible franchise? All signs point to yes! The action-packed movies will more than likely continue, at the very least for one more blockbuster finale. And a big ending is even more reason to bring back Jeremy Renner’s character in the series, William Brandt.
Haven’t caught Mission: Impossible – Fallout in theaters? Spoilers ahead!
Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his team could have really used William Brandt’s help in Fallout. While it was a lot of fun to see Henry Cavill team up with Cruise as August Walker, that didn’t last very long. Not that fans were ever too worried, Ethan Hunt always accomplishes his missions. Still, we love to see Renner kick ass and love his Mission: Impossible character. Fans of the actor also missed Renner in Avengers: Infinity War, so seeing him in Fallout would have been very cool.

As it turns out, it’s actually good he didn’t appear in the movie, according to Empire. Why? Because his character would have otherwise been killed, and rather quickly.
In an interview with the source, Fallout director and writer Christopher McQuarrie shared he actually did have a role in mind for Brandt, but one that sees the character’s untimely death.
“I had this whole idea that the movie would start with the death of a team member,” McQuarrie told the source. “…We can’t kill Ving, it’s never going to work… And we didn’t think the movie could recover if you killed Benji.”
"“So I said to Renner, ‘Hey listen, I have this idea for an opening sequence where you sacrifice yourself to save the team… And Jeremy was like, ‘Thanks, but no thanks.’ He was smart no to take the short paycheck for three days of work and getting blown up.”"
We are all also glad Renner didn’t take the spot. This means William Brandt is still out there and can return in the seventh movie for more than a quick opening sequence. Would you like to see Jeremy Renner’s character return?
Mission: Impossible – Fallout is playing in theaters everywhere. Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Alex Baldwin, and Michelle Monaghan also star.
