Shadowhunters season 3B to introduce Helen Blackthorn, Aline Penhallow will return
Aline Penhallow is confirmed to return to Shadowhunters, and we’re so excited to learn that Sydney Meyer will play Helen Blackthorn in season 3B!
As Shadowhunters starts to wrap production on The Final Hunt on set in Toronto, cast members and creators are taking to social media to write sentimental posts and answer fan questions about new episodes.
In a Twitter Q&A this morning with showrunner Todd Slavkin, it was confirmed that Aline Penhallow (Eileen Li ), who we last saw in Shadowhunters season 2B, will be returning to the series in season 3B!
Slavkin also revealed (to the delight of Shadowhunters fans around the world) that Aline Penhallow’s girlfriend, Helen Blackthorn, will come to the series this season as well, and that she will be played by Sydney Meyer.
In the books, Helen Blackthorn is half-Shadowhunter and half-faerie, and she lives in the Los Angeles Institute with her family (which includes six younger siblings). We know the show likes to put its own spin on the books’ storylines, and we’re excited to see how Aline and Helen will play a role in the upcoming episodes in the series.

Fans reacted very quickly to the exciting news, and Meyer must have been relieved to finally be able to share her Shadowhunters secret. She took to Twitter soon after Slavkin’s announcement to thank fans for the outpouring of love and comments. “Seriously. Y’all are wild. This is insane,” Meyer wrote. “Thank you guys so much for the love and the warm welcome. I love Helen so much and I’m so thankful you guys are trusting me with her. The past few months have been a gift. This cast is a dream.”
