The finale for the first season of Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger has arrived and brings a history lesson with it.

Cloak & Dagger begins with a narration on how New Orleans came to be. Evita has a troubled look on her face and we know it’s because she knows a darkness is looming. From there, we pick up where the previous episode left off as Tandy and Melissa fend off Roxxon’s assassin.

Ty is still on the run from the cops and his dad brings him his cloak. Considering the situation, he’s more than understanding and willing to let Ty cut off contact with them for his own safety.

Within the first ten minutes, Tandy already had to use her dagger twice. The second time was to save herself from a terror, as Ivan dubbed them previously. Her and Mina work on getting to the other valves before those explode, too. Meanwhile, Ty tries to use the cover of everyone partying to get away from the cops, but it fails and both him and Detective O’Reilly find themselves in cuffs.

The narration from Auntie Chantelle ties into the history of the city and she discusses the divine with Evita. However, the first couple narrations don’t really do much for me. Maybe it’s just because I’m not a big history buff, but they are low points in the episode.

Tandy and Mina visit Scarborough, who makes a bit of a dig on Spider-Man’s classic “with great power comes great responsibility.” He also mentions the Starks and Rands to keep up with. It’s a little on the nose, but I appreciated the references. Tandy shows him his hopes and guides him right to the door.

Ty and O’Reilly are unofficially being held at the station and as Connors goes to leave with them, a terror breaks in. NOLA isn’t safe and they city now has even fewer cops than it already did. In the chaos, Ty looks for his cloak and Officer Lafayette helps him and O’Reilly get to the weapons room.

The terrors are everywhere and Ty finds his way to Tandy just in time to hit Mina with the taser since she had been touched by one earlier. It takes over half of the episode, but now the two can try to save the city together, which is when they’re at their strongest.

Ty is upset that after getting control of his power back that it’s gone. Tandy is upset that Mina is gone, but Evita interrupts to let them know that they’re the divine pairing and one of them will die. Tandy apparently likes Ty and Evita together and wants him to “lock that down” when the city is done destroying itself. Tandy shows him Billy’s jacket and says that he can use it as a cloak. With his brother’s old jacket, Ty is ready to go.

Detective O’Reilly provides some quick back up for Ty and Tandy, but Connors shoots her (and one of the valves). We did get a tease that she’d become Mayhem and there’s no doubt that the energy from the valve is how that happens.

Ty and Tandy find the Roxxon Gulf building, but Connors finds them and Ty transports him up to the roof. We finally see an advancement with Ty’s powers when he absorbs him. Ty thinks that he’s the one who has to die, so he transports himself into the facility to stop another incident like the oil rig, but on a bigger scale.

Tandy follows him and while things are nearing destruction, she gives him a speech on how it needs to be both of them. For once, they manage to grabs hands without being immediately pushed apart. They stop the utter destruction, but things aren’t completely back to normal.

The cops are still at Ty’s house and he shows up just long enough to grab some clothes and stay at Tandy’s hideout as she returns home. Adina knows that Ty is safe, but doesn’t let anyone else know. Tandy brings Ty some things to tide him over and things end there for the two. However, we do get our look at O’Reilly coming out of the water as Mayhem. We’ll just have to wait until Spring 2019 before we see her in full form, though.
