We officially have a Batwoman in Ruby Rose. She’ll be set to appear in the crossover event on the CW.

Shortly after an update at the TCAs on Batwoman, we now know who will play the character in the annual crossover event: Ruby Rose. The news comes from Variety and a full series for the character is still in the works. It hasn’t been ordered to series just yet, but we’ll at least get the crossover appearance.

Is Ruby Rose a good choice?

You might know Ruby Rose from her time on Orange is the New Black, or more recently, John Wick: Chapter 2 and Pitch Perfect 3. Her grittiness shows in both Orange is the New Black and the John Wick movie, so we know she has that skill set already. Kate Kane is a fighter and I think Ruby Rose will portray that well based on her previous roles.

As soon as I saw this news, I didn’t question the decision at all. In Detective Comics, Kate Kane is the daughter of a military man. She has the crew cut hair and wears a wig when she’s out as Batwoman. With her hair being short already and her physique being similar, Rose is a great fit.

Batwoman received her own title after the “Batwoman Begins” story arc in Detective Comics, which allowed fans to get even more of the character. Right now feels like a great time to prep for her introduction into DC’s CW universe.

Even if we don’t get to see her in her own series, DC is finally acknowledging Batman’s world directly instead of just making jokes about “that other place.” Is it time for the crossover yet?
