Queens of Mystery adds more female sleuths to Acorn’s lineup
Acorn TV, home of quirky sleuth Agatha Raisin is now adding another original murder mystery series called Queens of Mystery.
After saving Agatha Raisin earlier in the year, Acorn is now ready to create more original programming by announcing their third original series entitled Queens of Mystery. According to Variety, this fresh and new offbeat British mystery features some quirky characters including the perennially single DS (Detective Sergeant) Matilda Stone and her matchmaking, mystery solving aunts, Beth, Cat and Jane Stone.
The aunts aren’t just assisting Matilda in solving the darkly comical murder cases. They have their own successful careers as bestselling mystery writers! Who knows if their skills at concocting their own whodunnits include some unorthodox methods of solving a mystery when assisting their niece? We are told that the ever intrusive aunts are also matchmakers, sending off Matilda on dates and hoping to get her settling down and down the path into her happily ever after.

The delightful plot of Queens of Mystery sounds a bit like Midsomer Murders meets Castle meets Agatha Raisin but Amelie-eque. Yes, Acorn has promised that this series will be an offbeat ride as it refers to the nearly 20-year old delightfully quirky French romantic comedy. Does this mean that Matilda will be dressing a bit unconventional, or is there a Mr. Right that she has to connect with?
Doc Martin writer, Julian Unthank created the new Acorn show. The first season will include three episode. Each will run 90 minutes long, but they will be aired in six 45-minute instalments. Production is set to begin in September in a “beautiful setting,” presumably in England, yet, the Queens of Mystery cast has not been announced.
