The Niffler stole the show in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, so now they decided that instead of one, why not make a hundred?

Fantastic Beasts is taking the adorable nuisance known as the Niffler and giving him a bunch of babies that will no doubt cause even more trouble. Can you imagine a bunch of Nifflers running around? There’d be a crime spree unlike any other, every bank in the country will be ransacked. Imagine the opening bank scene from the first Fantastic Beasts, only with Newt running around trying to catch not only one Niffler but three or four more postage note sized ones.

When news for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald first started leaking out, it was reported that the beasts wouldn’t be as important to the story as they were before. They’d be present just not as much, but even with that being said I don’t think anyone had any doubts about the Niffler’s return. Not only is he one of the cutest things ever created, he also added a lot of the movie’s soft-hearted humor. With the recent update that the sequel will be darker than the first, we’re going to need as much Niffler as we can get.

The appearance of the baby niffs was teased back in July during an interview with Pottermore, where Eddie Redmayne said, “The Niffler is back as you saw in the trailer and… the Niffler may have babies.” But it wasn’t until yesterday that we finally got the official proof of their existence from a photo released by Entertainment Weekly of their concept art. They’re funny shaped head and huge eyes are incredibly baby like, and their black and white coat make them look like sweet little cows. From the looks of the picture the babies are just as money hungry as their parents.

More from Harry Potter Movies

According to EW, Newt tries to gather a litter of newborn Nifflers that are just as wild as their parents. “They’re wreaking havoc,” Redmayne says. Sounds like cuteness overload! Other new beasts that we can expect to see include a Kelpie, a Scottish underwater creature, a large moose-like creature known as a Leucrotta and an Augurey which is an owl-looking animal that can predict death.

Some extra Fantastic Beasts updates include a Harry Potter and the Cursed Child connection involving the Augurey. In the Cursed Child, the character Delphini (Tom Riddle’s daughter) has a tattoo of an Augurey’s feathers on the back of her neck that are also apart of the play’s logo. In Harry Potter mythology, an Augurey’s feathers repel ink and foretell the weather and the creature itself has that handy skill of predicting death, giving the animal different ways to help Newt and the others.

There is a couple of Lord Voldemort theories going around, including one about his snake. The theory suggests that Nagini, his snake, is actually a cursed girl. The girl in question, played by Claudia Kim, is a circus performer that is also a Maledictus – a wizard/witch born with a blood curse that will eventually turn them into a beast (right up Newt’s alley). The runaway Obscurus, Credence Barebone, also lives in the same circus and has a connection with the Maledictus that will probably affect his role in the next few films.

Newt’s first love, Leta Lestrange, will make an appearance, but if she’s anything like the other Lestrange’s then she’ll be easy to hate. However, their relationship will apparently be a major theme in the movie, sorry Tina.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald hits theaters on November 16, 2018 and I’m sure we can expect department stores to be completely stocked with plenty of baby Niffler toys by then. They’re going to be the Porgs of the Harry Potter universe, only better.
