1. Pitch Perfect

Original Release Date: September 28, 2012

Box Office Earnings: Pitch Perfect had a worldwide total of $115,350,426. The domestic total gross was $65,001,093. Not bad for a movie with a budget of $17 million.

Critical Acclaim: Fans and critics both had fun with this movie. Rotten Tomatoes has the critics sitting at 80% and fans at 83%. The movie did well at the MTV Movie Awards and Teen Choice Awards. At the former, Rebel Wilson won Best Breakthrough Performance and the Bellas won Best Musical Moment. At the latter, the movie won Choice Movie: Comedy and Rebel Wilson, Skylar Astin and Adam Devine all went home with awards, too.

About the Role: Kendrick plays Beca Mitchell in the movie and this is the role that really seemed to put her on the map despite her breakthrough coming a few years earlier. Beca is a freshman in college who is forced by her father to be there. She meets fellow freshman Jesse Swanson (Skylar Astin’s character) at the school radio station and winds up not going to too many classes. Her father then forces her to join a club and the Bellas snatch her up. She auditions with “The Cups Song” and from there, she finds her way to becoming one of the leaders of the group as they compete.

Simply the Best: As I mentioned, this movie put Anna Kendrick on the map. Her cover of “The Cups Song” was everywhere and I still think this movie has the better soundtrack of the three. The film has a nice mix of songs in it and you can’t help but get invested in the competition as the Bellas advance. Plus, this movie has the a capella showdown in the pool that gives us Kendrick’s take on “No Diggity.” That’s a win in my book.
