#3 Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1  (2014)

Main Cast: Chris Pratt, Bradley Cooper, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan and Lee Pace.

Of all the franchises in Marvel, no heart rings truer or louder than that of the Guardians of the Galaxy. What James Gunn did was outstanding and no one else could have brought this weird little unknown property to life in the way he did. His energy and fingerprint are vibrant all throughout the film from the music, to the characters, and the personality of the story itself. This is truly a James Gunn movie and it was executed with so much love.

Beyond just this was the incredible detail to the universe he created. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 did not just introduce us to a group of lovable misfits but an incredible expanded world that was lacking before this film’s introduction. Best of all, James Gunn’s weird little pocket in the Marvel Cinematic Universe meshed with the rest of the Avengers timeline seamlessly. It’s the kind of expanded realized world that makes you want to jump on board with these heroes and explore the rest of this strange little galaxy.

A lot can be said on what contributed to the success of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1, but in reality, this is just a shining example of a perfect storm of awesomeness that collided for our benefit. Chris Pratt was born to be Star-Lord, with all his immature goofball charm. No one can be Rocket Raccoon besides Bradley Cooper. And Vin Diesel was destined to say, “We are Groot” ever since he decided to voice The Iron Giant. The same goes for Dave Bautista as Drax and Zoe Saldana as Gamora. And above all, no one else was meant to bring these amazing misfits to life other than James Gunn himself.
