#15 Doctor Strange (2016)

Main Cast: Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mads Mikkelsen, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong and Tilda Swinton.

Many people wondered why Marvel introduced Doctor Strange’s character to the MCU, as he is often thought of as a minor player in the Marvel Universe. The film didn’t do as well as Disney wanted and fans were unenthusiastic about the film in general due to it’s many glaring faults. However this does not mean that the film is without merit, Benedict Cumberbatch’s performances is one of the strongest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s heroes and while he is generally thought of as a more serious actor, he commits to the role just as much as he does to his Sherlock character.

After Avengers: Infinity War came out it becomes clear why Doctor Strange was included in the third phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it would be a mistake to dismiss this movie as fluff. It tries to discuss the deeper aims of heroes in general and does its best to give a more complex background to its character. While it’s unlikely we will get to see more stand alone Stephen Strange films, it will be a sad loss to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for it to abandon one of its more unique characters due to unwelcome box office returns.
