It’s hard to believe that Supernatural Season 3, Episode 15 was the first time we met Rufus. And he certainly had some of the best lines from the episode. Here are the top five from Time Is On My Side.

Rufus Turner. Doc Benton. Bela Talbot. Supernatural Season 3, Episode 15 had some great characters opposite Sam and Dean Winchester. This episode initially piqued my interest before Billy Draco (I loved him as the Demon of Fear on Charmed) but I constantly come back for Rufus Turner. It seems weird that it took us to this point to actually get to meet him.

And Rufus certainly had some of the best lines of the whole episode. Here’s a look at the top five lines from “Time Is On My Side.”

What you’re trying to do is chase Slicy McHackey here. And to kill him? No. You wanna buy him a freaking beer. You wanna study him.

Dean knows his brother too well. He knows that Sam is desperate and now realizes the whole reason Sam wanted in on this case was to study Doc Benton. It’s an act of desperation for a younger brother who has tried everything he knows and so far failed to save Dean.

You know, I don’t even bother drinking unless it’s this stuff. Nectar of the gods, I’m telling you.

Rufus had the best taste in alcohol. Bobby made it clear to Dean that he’d need to take some Johnnie Walker Blue. There was going to be no negotiation on that. It certainly worked, and it gave us an insight into what could “buy” Rufus in a way. At least, buy information from him.

Even if you manage to scrape out of this one, there’s just gonna be something else down the road. Folks like us… there ain’t no happy ending.

Rufus instantly brings some realism to the episode. The hunter’s life is a solitary one. It’s full of heartache. Supernatural never fully explored Rufus in the way they could have. I would have loved to still see this guy around (and he was one I really wanted to see in the Apocalypse World). I’d happily take a prequel spin-off with Rufus and Bobby hunting together just for more of his one-liners, sarcasm, and realism.

But you know what the bitch of the bunch is? If you would have just come to us sooner and asked for help we probably could have taken the Colt and saved you.

I always wished that Bela wasn’t as selfish and so focused on self-preservation as she was. As much as I loved that part of her character, I really wanted her and Dean to work together. These two were cut from the same cloth, so to speak. They were so alike in certain ways that it was crazy. What’s so sweet about this line is that Dean would have helped. He knew they could have helped each other.

I’ll see you in Hell.

It’s in this moment that I knew Dean wasn’t going to make it out alive. I also knew he’d accepted it in a way. While he was going to keep fighting for his brother and he wanted to keep some sort of hope, he knew that he wasn’t going to get out of this deal. It would take a miracle and he was taking Rufus’ words on board.
