One Punch Man Season 2 announcement and villain reveal
By Paul Zuniga
One Punch Man, one of the best anime in recent years finally has a release date for its second season. The details were revealed not too long ago, along with a tease of the upcoming season’s grand villain.
After fans fell in love with the first season of One Punch Man, it was pretty obvious the series would continue. The bad news is that years have passed by without any word of a continuation. And just when it seemed like a new season would never happen, an announcement was made.
The news broke in March 2017, giving way to fans blowing up social media with their excitement for One Punch Man’s return. Unfortunately, the initial announcement did not carry with it a release date for Season 2, depriving fans of any real info.
After that, fans went about speculating on when a potential premiere would take place. Guesses ranged from late 2017 to early 2018 but nothing happened. Now, it’s late 2018 and we’re finally learning that the Season 2 premiere date will take place in April 2019. Viz Media made the announcement via Twitter, along with dropping a teaser trailer for Season 2 of One Punch Man. It doesn’t show much but a few things can be determined.

For one, the new villain is named Garou/Garlow. He’s reportedly a former student of Bang who wound up being excommunicated after he went on a rampage in the dojo that he trained. Secondly, unlike his master and fellow compatriots, Garou has no intention of becoming a Hero. He actually finds more interest in monsters and goes about transforming himself into one during the Monster Association arc. The end result changes his appearance and solidifies his standing as the Human Monster.
Lastly, Garou is stepping out of the shadows to attack the Hero Association. The teaser has Garou saying that he’s going to spread his evil and incite a slaughter party. This can only mean Garou intends to leave a bloody trail of bodies in his wake when he returns to Z-City. If that is the case here, Garou will probably be introduced similarly to how he was in the manga. Of course, we’ll have to wait and see how much of the manga will influence the animated series.
One Punch Man Season 2 premieres in April 2019.
