Matt Groening, creator of the beloved animated series Futurama and The Simpsons, has teamed up with Netflix for his new series Disenchantment. Here is a brief look at the series which follows the medieval adventures of a heavy-drinking princess named Bean.

Audiences first fell in love with Groening’s animation in 1989 when they were introduced to the dysfunctional Simpsons family. Almost a decade later, the first episodes of the widely loved series Futurama premiered and gave viewers another hit. Now, Groening has partnered with Netflix to bring another animated comedy to fans.

Disenchantment will take audiences to the medieval kingdom known as Dreamland and introduce them to princess Bean. This heavy-drinking, outspoken girl  is on a quest to discover who she is and teams up with her friend Elfo and personal demon Luci.

The series also boasts a great cast. Abbi Jacobson of Broad City will voice Bean, Eric André as Luci, and Nat Faxon voices Elfo. Fans of past cast members of Groening’s shows will also recognize John DiMaggio, Billy West, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, and David Herman.

Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content for Netflix, said that “the series will bear [Groening’s] trademark animation style and biting wit.”  Fans of his previous work will undoubtedly find some joy in the new series and Netflix is counting on it.

The streaming service has already ordered twenty episodes of Disenchantment, ten of which premiere in the first season. Netflix hopes to ride the wave of popular adult animated comedies such as BoJack Horseman and more recently Big Mouth.

The whimsical first trailer for Disenchantment gives a good first taste of the series. It will clearly maintain the comedic wit of Groening and his writers and also aims to ask deeper questions about the universe.
