There was an opportunity to reuse a joke over and over throughout The Meg, and it was completely ignored.

When Snakes on a Plane was in theaters, there were reports of people narrating throughout the movie. When the snake hit someone in the neck, someone shouted, “Snakes on a vein!” At every chance thereafter, a new joke emerged. Why couldn’t this happen for The Meg?

The very first time the itty bitty submarine got hit, someone should have said, “We can’t remain stable under that force. We’re gonna need a bigger sub.”

When they drop the rover on the ocean floor and it gets absolutely destroyed, flipped, and tossed like a child’s play thing, “We’re gonna need a bigger rover.”

This is a joke that keeps on giving. Over and over and over, like a repetitious Seth McFarlane skit.

Much like the famous Airplane gag, “Looks like I picked the wrong week to [insert drug abuse here],” the “We’re gonna need a bigger [insert punchline here]” would have worked. If things keep going the way they have been, “We’re gonna need a bigger sequel.”
