Bless our hearts. There is a strong chance that Wes Anderson’s follow up to The Isle of Dogs is going to be a musical set in France

Coming from the genius mind of Wes Anderson, the man behind Isle of Dogs, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Moonrise Kingdom, is probably going to be the musical that’ll make everyone forget about La La Land. Anderson is already getting ready to start on his next project and is scouting locations to start filming a post-WWII piece that is likely to be another humorous, quirky and picturesque masterpiece. According to the French outlet, Charente Libre (via The Playlist), he is currently in the French area of Angoulême and apparently “the American would like to come and shoot a musical.”

I don’t know how Anderson has not yet made a musical. Each of his films is a fast-paced melodramatic comedy that makes you feel like you’re watching an immaculately woven piece of crazy delight on Broadway. Music has a strong presence in Anderson’s movies, he’s the geeky version of Tarantino, and has a clear love for music. Anderson and music supervisor Randall Poster, work together on every picture making sure that every song and composition matches the scene and keeps the film in its poetic prose.

The 1940’s period project is currently untitled and is expected to begin filming sometime this year or early 2019 for a 2020 release. If history repeats itself, then Bill Murrey and Owen Wilson will star or make an appearance. Murrey has been in every single one of Anderson’s films except 1996’s Bottle Rocket and Wilson has been in seven out of nine. The two seem like the perfect pair to sing a musical duet together, I can see it.

Knowing Anderson, the film could very well be a dedication to the French and their country. Anderson has mentioned his love of French films before and currently lives in Paris. The supposed setting of the movie, Angoulême, the “balcony of the southwest” and the capital of Charente, has graphically beautiful ramparts overlooking the city and the river, locations overrun with plant life, and a preserved “old town.” Sounds like The Shire.

Angoulême is also a great place to film a war devastated town because the area itself was heavily bombed during the war and some parts have remained in ruins. This isn’t the first time Anderson has used a French theme or placed his films in a war setting, if anything this new film is going to be the most Wes Anderson movie Wes Anderson has ever made.

Next. An Alf reboot is coming, “Just leave me the keys to the liquor cabinet!”. dark

Everyone is about 99% sure that the movie will be a musical but keep in mind that it technically hasn’t been confirmed yet, so there is a chance that it’s not a musical at all. It could be something entirely different, though I’m sure that it’s a musical.

Are you excited? If not then I question your sanity.
