Stranger Things: 5 wishes for Season 3

Stranger Things won’t be back until later next year, but the newest season is already getting hyped by cast and crew. Here are five wishes I have for season 3.

Stranger Things isn’t coming back until later next year. However, I am already hyped for it, especially after the teaser that was released last month. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, cast member David Harbour stated season 3 will “take a lot of risks”. Color me excited.

As much as I love Stranger Things, I did have some complaints about the last season. It did not live up to the greatness of the first. Hopefully, season 3 will recapture the magic of the first season and will not repeat the second season’s mistakes.

Here are five wishes I have for Stranger Things season 3:

1. Less time with new characters, more time on established characters

My ideal for season 3 would be to have no new characters, but unfortunately, that isn’t happening. Last season spent too much time on new characters that were mostly one-note and bland (with the exception of Sean Astin’s Bob) and not enough on the characters we already love.

Television shows can definitely suffer from having an overly-stuffed cast of characters. Once Upon a Time is a great example of this. I am hoping these new characters are less stereotypical and more fleshed out than the new ones introduced last season. Also, I want to spend more time with the Hawkins citizens we know and love.

2. Give Nancy more to do

In the first season, there was a little romantic tension between Nancy and Jonathan, but her storyline was mostly based on her desire to find out what happened to her best friend, Barb. However, most of Nancy’s story in the second season revolved around the love triangle between her, Jonathan, and Steve. Can we give this female character more to do besides pine over two men, please? Speaking of the love triangle …

3. No more love triangle

Love triangles almost always bog down stories, especially if they are drawn out for too long. Stranger Things should take a lesson from Lost. The love triangle in Lost ultimately dragged down the story, took away from the sci-fi/ mystery elements, and got stale really fast. Learn from Lost‘s mistakes, Stranger Things!

4. More scenes with the gang all together

One of the things that makes Stranger Things so great is the friendship between the children characters. In the first season, Eleven was with the four main boys often. However, last season she was mostly separated from them. This, along with the fact Dustin and Lucas often went out on their own, made season two feel somewhat empty. The show works best when the gang is all together.

5. The stakes are raised even higher

Stranger Things can get intense but seems to shy away from making bold choices. The show has such potential to go deeper into its themes. It doesn’t have to be extremely dark, but I would like to see the series go a little bit beyond the surface level. With higher stakes, questions of morality can be raised. Based on Harbour’s comments, it seems like this is to come in the next season.
