The Gifted: Could S.H.I.E.L.D replace Trask? Show-runner reveals Trask to be replaced
By Ryan Mekkes
A report has gone out saying that Trask industries will be replaced with another organization. After the Disney merger, that could mean big things for the future of The Gifted. Could S.H.I.E.L.D. come into the picture?
In an interview with Science Fiction, show-runner for The Gifted, Matt Nix, revealed that Trask Industries is going to be a thing of the past and that another organization will take its place. And when we consider the recent 21st Century Fox/Disney merger, that could mean very exciting things for the show.
Although the merger just happened in July, meaning season 2 would likely not be affected, the curious (and awesome) thing about The Gifted is that, according to Nix, they were “already pretty much doing things in a Marvel way.”
He revealed as much in an interview with Comic Book Report when discussing the merger, which at the time was unsure to happen. Apparently, he had already been in contact with/under the supervision of the people who are in charge at Disney, so the way he will run things under their ownership will not change much.
Another thing he mentioned to CBR was a desire to work in collusion with the movies of the Marvel universe so that The Gifted has a separate but connected storyline. What does that mean? Well, here’s what it could mean… S.H.I.E.L.D. coming into the picture.
S.H.I.E.L.D. is, after all, the most well known and notorious mutant surveillance organization in the entire Marvel universe. And it’s also certain that any connection at all that could be established with The Avengers would make ratings for The Gifted skyrocket.
To that end, Emma Dumont (who plays Polaris) also revealed that we will be learning of her childhood on the upcoming season of the Gifted, which means that we will likely see her father, Magneto, make an appearance of some sort in season 2. So an expanding universe with familiar characters is fully expected to happen.

Further cementing this trajectory is the fact that the Morlocks and the Purifiers will be joining season 2. Bottom line is, exciting things are on the horizon.
If we don’t see S.H.I.E.L.D. in season 2, there’s always season 3 (should it be ordered) when the merger with Disney will be in full effect operationally. But if not S.H.I.E.L.D., what could the new mystery organization be?
Could it be Hydra? or even the organization that took over S.H.I.E.L.D. — H.A.M.M.E.R., since the events of The Gifted take place after the prominence of the X-Men? Whatever happens, there is a lot to look forward to for the future of the show.
What organization do you think will make an appearance in season 2 of The Gifted? Let the guessing game begin!
