Supernatural’s upcoming fourteenth season is going to be a few episodes shorter than normal. Supernatural’s cast and crew reassure fans it’s a good thing.

Last week, Supernatural’s cast and crew sat down with Digital Spy to discuss the upcoming 14th season of the show.  The topic at hand, the shortened episode count of the upcoming season. It’s been the most discussed aspect of the upcoming season, besides Dean being inhabited by Michael.

Both the writers and the actors assure fans that the decrease in episodes is a good thing. Not only is it going to be better for the cast’s personal lives, it’ll be good for the quality of the story.

Both Jensen and Jared live in Texas while filming in Canada. They both have small children and travel home whenever they can to spend time with them. The shorter season means they’ll have longer to spend with their families between seasons. Allowing the two men to have some more time off will only benefit the show. Not having exhausted lead actors will allow for the two men to give their best performances on camera.

Another benefit the writers discussed was the storyline. With fewer episodes they’ll be able to tell the story a bit tighter, leaving out some of the filler episodes we often see in a season. Sometimes, the writers say they’ll be nearing the end of the story and realize they still have episodes left to fill. With 20 episodes instead of 23, we should see less of the random, one-off stories we as fans sometimes complain about.

Personally, this is good news. The fact that the writers have admitted there will be more opportunity to tell a tighter, more cohesive story with the fewer episodes makes this fan happy. Having fewer one-off stories that don’t fit in with the overall arching storyline will definitely make the show run smoother.

Why did Supernatural opt for 20 episodes and not 13 episodes?. dark. Next
