14. Jus in Bello

Out of all the characters in the first five seasons, I was most annoyed at Victor Henriksen’s exit from the series. There was so much potential for his character just from this single episode. We got to learn that there was very little difference between Henriksen and Dean. All this guy wanted was to do good,

Had Henriksen been allowed to live, I could see him dropping the FBI and becoming a hunter. I could see him going rogue, just like the Winchesters.

But enough about him. This is about the episode. Why does Supernatural Season 3, Episode 12 belong as the 13th best ever episode of Supernatural? It’s all about the big reveal at the very end, along with the buildup to that reveal.

Let’s start with the buildup. With Sam and Dean in chains, we had no idea what to expect. There was a huge demonic army coming for them and at first, it was impossible to see how they were going to survive. Then we see how Sam and Dean think. They always try to stay one step ahead.

But it really was the big reveal. Throughout the episode, we were left to believe the woman from the town that Nancy the secretary knew was the demon in charge. Then she was exorcised. It wasn’t going to be easy to get rid of the demon fighting for Sammy’s spot was it?

Of course not! At the very end, we get Lilith’s introduction. And yes, it’s another brilliant introduction. Who would have thought that a child would be the demon? This would have made it extremely difficult for any hunter to take the demon down. It was definitely a smart move.
