1. Swan Song

There is only one episode that could ever be the best one of all time. This isn’t going to change–except maybe when the Supernatural series finale airs. That’s not going to be for a while though.

“Swan Song” was the moment we’d waited five years to see. It was the wrap of Eric Kripke’s story and what a story it was. All this started with Sam and Dean on a road trip to find their father. Little did they know they would end up being the vessels of two of the most powerful archangels in the world. They never realized that they were born to be the brothers who would start and end the apocalypse.

Of course, they weren’t going to let that happen. As much as Michael and Lucifer wanted them to—and many of the angels did, too—they weren’t going to bring about the end of the world as they knew it. But they had to figure out a way around it.

We’d watch them go back and forth. Dean at one point considered saying yes to Michael. There were times they both went their separate ways. We’d watched them both die and be resurrected. And it all came to this moment.

When Sam said yes to Lucifer, we were scared. Would he be able to fight off the archangel enough to open the door to the Cage? Well, it wasn’t easy for him. It was all because of Dean, Baby, and the memories of a childhood long forgotten to help bring Sam to the surface.

The writing, direction, lighting, sound, and everything else came together for Eric Kripke’s swan song.
