Chapter 10: “Chidi’s Choice”

Guests: William Jackson Harper, Actor (Chidi Anagonye) / Demi Adejuyigbe, Writer

Fun Facts:

  • Adejuyigbe says that Mike Schur had all of the writers read the John Paul Sartre play “No Exit” prior to starting work on the show. “No Exit” is a one act play set in hell.
  • When Eleanor refers to Chidi as her “flashlight”, this is a direct reference to the Allegory of the Cave by Plato. This definitely gives the line more context because it’s not only a super sweet thing to say to someone, but it illustrates that Eleanor was paying close attention in those lectures the whole time.
  • According to Adejuyigbe, Mike Schur teasingly said that all the characters were in hell during a press event leading up to the Season 1 premiere. No one believed him.
