The CW acquired Burden of Truth from CBC. The Canadian network has renewed the legal drama, but with The CW keep Burden of Truth Season 2?

Burden of Truth Season 2 is officially happening. CBC announced back in July that the series was going to get another season, with Kristen Kreuk back in the lead role. That’s great news for those who love the series in Canada, but what about the States? Will The CW pick it up again?

Right now, The CW only licenses the Canadian series. That means it has to pay money for the rights to air it for Stateside viewers. So, to make the series worthwhile, it needs to have good ratings to get good advertisements.

Will The CW pick up Burden of Truth Season 2? This will depend on the ratings.

More from CW

Right now, there’s only one summer scripted show that’s doing worse than the Canadian drama, according to TV Series FinaleThe Outpost has routinely performed worse than Burden of Truth, although not by much.

In terms of live ratings, the first season of the legal series has averages 0.16 in the demo and 0.786 million in total. That’s not great, even for a summer show.

However, Burden of Truth airs in the 8/7c slot, which is usually given to shows that already perform well. Putting a new show here is a high risk and The CW may take that into consideration. Most new shows are put in the 9/8c slot to run behind a successful show in hopes of keeping the audience.

The CW will look at other factors to determine whether keeping the series is financially beneficial. While it has to pay to license the show, there are no other running costs. CBC foots that bill. The license fee may be less than it would cost to run a new drama in the slot next year, making it a viable option financially.

Viewing ratings on the app will also likely affect the decision. Plus it will depend on the type of costs the network can gain from advertisements. There’s far more than just live figures that go into the decision to renew.
