Who would you like to see direct Bond 25? Here are seven filmmakers we believe are an excellent choice!

Earlier this week, the producers and star of the James Bond franchise announced that filmmaker Danny Boyle would not be directing the forthcoming 25th official Bond movie. The only reason given for Boyle’s departure was the old Hollywood euphemism “creative differences.” On the one hand, it’s disappointing that the world will never see what kind of Bond movie the director of Trainspotting would’ve made. But on the other, Boyle’s departure opens the door for another filmmaker to take the helm of Bond 25.

However, considering who could direct a new Bond movie goes beyond just looking at talented filmmakers. The Broccoli family that produces the franchise is renowned for not hiring directors who insist on having a lot of creative control.

In years past, high-profile directors like Quentin Tarantino, Steven Spielberg and Roger Michell have all tired and failed to get a job with Eon Productions. For that reason, it seems unlikely that notoriously precise filmmakers like David Fincher, James Cameron and Ridley Scott probably shouldn’t be considered.

Moreover, high-profile directors who are actively involved in shepherding other blockbuster franchises are unlikely to be headhunted by the Bond producers. So, directors like JJ Abrams, Patty Jenkins, and Ryan Coogler don’t make the list. It seems the best choices for potential Bond 25 directors are strong visual storytellers, but are not so idiomatic that they can’t fit into a pre-established franchise mold.
