Can Lethal Weapon survive season 3 without Clayne Crawford?
Can Lethal Weapon survive season 3 without Clayne Crawford? Is Seann William Scott going to be a good enough replacement?
Lethal Weapon is returning for a third season on Fox, and the show is definitely in some turmoil. There is serious risk of this season being the final season.
The on screen chemistry between Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans was apparently a massive smokescreen. Behind the scenes the pair were not as ebony and ivory as everyone thought. This led to a significant grudge and an eventual firing.
Recap of the current status
Season three of Lethal Weapon first became a risk when reports came out that Crawford was disciplined because of complaints. Then there were recasting rumors since there were reports of people feeling uncomfortable on set. Then Crawford confirmed the conditions with the following Instagram post.
Additionally, Wayans reported of an injury on set that looked like nothing more than salt on a wound. In fact, the injury he reported was fairly minor. The resulting explosion between Crawford and Wayans, however, certainly was not.
So where is Lethal Weapon now?

Instead of Crawford returning, his spot is getting taken by Seann William Scott. Original rumors were that Scott would play Crawford’s brother. That sounded horrible, so Fox executives decided to make Scott a police veteran named Wesley Cole. In order to be closer to his ex Natalie (Maggie Lawson), and his child, Cole relocates to LA.
Of course, Scott’s arrival and all the drama with Crawford means Detective Martin Riggs, who was shot in the season two finale of Lethal Weapon, is no longer alive. First, Riggs literally is the “lethal weapon” in Lethal Weapon. Without Riggs this may as well be called “Los Angeles: PD.” Second, Maureen Cahill (Jordana Brewster) now becomes basically a wasted character. These are two big problems. To quote Julia Roberts, “Big mistake. Big. Huge.”
What’s your take? Can Lethal Weapon survive without Clayne Crawford? Did they make a big mistake letting him go? When will there be an answer to all these questions?
Lethal Weapon returns to Fox for season three on September 25.
