Gemma Teller popping up in the Mayans M.C. premiere brought back feelings! Let’s look back at the character’s best (and worst) moments in Sons of Anarchy…

Missed the series premiere of FX’s Mayans M.C.? Please note there are spoilers ahead!

Seeing Gemma Teller (Katey Sagal) appear in the premiere of Mayans M.C. was unexpected. While it’s no surprise series creator Kurt Sutter would want to include his talented wife, who portrayed one of the most popular and beloved SOA characters, we didn’t see it coming this early on! It was definitely a lovely surprise that brought back nostalgia to the good old days and many feelings.

Gemma was a badass mother, wife, and grandma! There was no getting in her way when she had her mind set on something. Gemma was endlessly stubborn, but just as devoted to those she cared about. Admittedly, however, she wasn’t always great. Gemma made many mistakes, and the biggest one of them all got her killed.

More from FX

In the series premiere of Mayans M.C., Gemma Teller appears in the middle of the episode. EZ (JD Pardo) is thinking back to when he found himself in jail. During the flashback, we see Emily (Sarah Bolger) pay him a visit, demanding to know why he has been avoiding her.

Gemma is sitting at a table near them, but viewers don’t immediately recognize her as her back is facing the camera. But when EZ becomes agitated after learning Emily is pregnant, guards jump on him as EZ fights back. Gemma turns to see the action, shakes her head and whispers “a**holes.” Such a Gemma thing to say!

Gemma’s Best

Gemma loved her son Jackson (Charlie Hunnam), her grandchildren, father, and daughter-in-law, Tara (Maggie Siff), in that order. If anyone messed around with the above, she’d be there in a heartbeat ready to kick some ass.

This was proven true when she caught her elderly father’s caretaker not doing her job. How dare she?! And when Gemma learned Tara was having problems at work with her boss, she fixed it with a good ol’ threat. Gemma wasn’t all talk, either, she always backed up what she said.

The times she stood up to protect her son and grandbabies were numerous! But one of our most (though, also least) favorite memories is when she gave Clay (Ron Perlman) a good smack for attempting to kill Tara. At the time, she didn’t want Tara dead at all, but her two grandchildren could have been hurt in the attack, and the thought of that alone made her furious! This is also our least fave, though, because it’s one of the most brutal scenes in Sons of Anarchy. Clay didn’t hesitate to punch back and ended up beating Gemma to a pulp.

Gemma’s Worst

Gemma loved her two grandkids, Abel and Thomas, so much so she was…willing to kill an infant? Yup. That happened. Remember when Abel was kidnapped and, in order to get the orphanage to reveal Abel’s location, Gemma grabbed a random baby and pointed a gun at her? Too far, Gemma, too far.

As much as we love Gemma for not backing down when she faced Clay, we’re very disappointed she ended up killing Tara herself. It’s easily her worst moment. We understand (well, some of us) her intentions. She thought Tara had betrayed Jackson and the entire crew and was responsible for sending her son to jail. However, Tara is still the mother of her grandchildren! How could she leave her grandkids without a mom? That’s low, Gemma. Even for you. Not to mention, that was a savage and cruel kill. It shocked all viewers.
