4. The Good Cop

Releasing: September 21, 2018

Starring: Tony Danza and Josh Groban

Why it’s worth a watch: September is a huge month for Netflix originals especially the 21st. In addition to Maniac premiering, another original, The Good Cop will premiere. Unlike Maniac, Good Cop is not a dark comedy but more of a family comedy.

More from Netflix

The main characters in Good Cop are a father-son duo, Tony Caruso Sr and Tony Caurso Jr played by Tony Danza and Josh Groban. According to the show’s creator, it’s going to be more light-hearted and fun versus dark and gritty. With so many dark police shows already, it’s an exciting change of pace.

The biggest selling point besides the cast has to be its creator, Andy Breckman. For those who don’t know, Breckman created and wrote USA Network’s, Monk. The Good Cop is similar as it focuses on the police but in a different way. We don’t see many father-son police duos either so it’s unique in that right.

Overall, Good Cop has the potential to be among the likes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. It might not be as beloved but it’s a different take on the cop genre. Plus maybe we’ll get a song from Josh Groban so it’s a win-win.
