Will Project Runway continue without Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn, and Zac Posen?
In an unexpected turn of events, Project Runway is now a reboot. Will it continue without the show’s signature hosts?
Heidi Klum has said her final “Auf Wiedersehen.” The Emmy-winning show, which recently left Lifetime for Bravo, will now be without the German supermodel and popular mentor Tim Gunn. The pair will be starring in an up and coming Amazon show.
Project Runway fans who were excited the fashion reality show was returning to Bravo got the biggest shock on Friday. According to Deadline, the fan favorite mentor, Tim Gunn and host Heidi Klum have announced that they are not joining the long-running fashion design show. Instead, they are creating a new, yet unnamed show for Amazon.

What do we know about the new, currently unnamed Amazon show starring Klum and Gunn? According to the Amazon press release, the former Project Runway stars new show is starting sometime in 2019.
Keeping the details “close to the vest,” the new Amazon show is a collaboration with Amazon Fashion. It is an “Intersection of content, commerce and technology.” Amazon is clearly focusing on international customers and offering more than a viewing experience. It sounds like this could be a sort of interactive, universal fashion extravaganza.
Unlike Project Runway, which is based out of the United States and featuring primarily American fashion designers, this show will “appeal to a global audience” and will be broadcast to “over 200 countries.” This competition show promises to include “storytelling and authenticity.”
Could the new Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn show be filmed around the world as well as feature designers from around the world? That sounds like a strong possibility. What seems to be a sure bet is that Amazon Fashion will create a fashion line based on this new show. Over the years, Project Runway used a cornucopia of product placements from yoghurt to luxury vehicles. It can be assumed that Amazon is the permanent advertiser.
What will happen to Project Runway now that the two most iconic faces of the show have left? According to Bravo, they have already found replacements for the “make it work” mentor and the supermodel host.
Three months ago, when Bravo bought the rights to Peabody Award wining show after the Harvey Weinstein bankruptcy, devoted fans thought that this meant that the show would be better. Fans may have wondered why there was such a delay in announcing the return of Heidi Klum, Tim Gunn, Nina Garcia and Zac Posen. As the show was not returning until 2019, fans may have assumed that those details were already worked out and they just needed to get back into production.
When the original production company Magical Elves agreed to return, fans were nearly giddy. The early Bravo years, seasons 1-5, have always been considered superior to the subsequent Lifetime years, seasons 6-16. With the recent development, fans expected a revival of the show, but instead it appears it is now a reboot.
Andy Cohen admitted on Twitter that he is giddy about the “next generation” of Project Runway on Bravo. So far, no names have been leaked. Could Bravo promote some fan fav former contestant-designers like Austin Scarlett, Jay McCarroll or maybe even Santino Rice? That is very possible.
It just does not seem to be the real Project Runway without Tim Gunn. Gunn is synonymous with the show. His ability to successfully mentor without interfering is a joy to watch. Under his critical eye, designers have bloomed. Fans who have watched All Stars have seen an array of mentors, all talented editors. Yet, none have ever compared to beholding the wisdom of Tim Gunn.
Then again, Bravo could even surprise fans with a new mentor and judges that have never been attached to the show before. They are taking the show in such an unexpected direction that it is nearly impossible to predict their next move.
Not long after Heidi and Tim’s shock announcement, Project Runway designer-judge Zac Posen also announced that he will also not be returning. Posen joined the show in season 11 to replace the witty designer Michael Kors. As of now, there is no word on whether Nina Garcia will continue with Bravo. Garcia was recently made editor-in-chief of Elle.
As for Project Runway Junior and Project Runway All Stars, nothing has been stated on whether either show will return.
Are you surprised by Heidi and Tim’s decision to go on to Amazon and create a new show? Are you shocked that Project Runway will have a new host and mentor? Who do you think Bravo will bring in to replace Heidi and Time? Please share your opinions and predictions.
