The Marvel and DC universes are taking over New York for an October comic frenzy like never before, and we have high hopes for what New York Comic-Con has in store.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year for comic book and superhero fans around the world. New York Comic-Con is fast approaching, taking place October 3 to 7, and already the lineup of Marvel and DC events look promising. But there’s still a lot we don’t know about what to expect at NYCC 2018, from Marvel VR games to DC comic creator appearances. Luckily, the recent press releases and schedule listings have given fans a reason to be ecstatic, and an excuse to speculate about what marvelous wonders might still be in store.

Spider-Verse sneak peak

Cast and filmmakers from Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, have said they will give audiences “an inside look” at the limitless world of the Spider-Verse–where more than one can wear the mask–but what exactly does that mean? Hopefully, a first-look at the film or a panel with Shameik Moore, Jake Johnson, and Hailee Steinfeld. Even better yet, both.

More from Comic Con

This is perhaps one of the most highly-anticipated events at New York Comic-Con. Being considered one of the best comic series Marvel has ever produced, it was no surprise that Daredevil received so much affection when it released on Netflix. After a year of absence following The Defenders–two years after the second season came to a close–the red horned phantom is back for a third season and joining Marvel’s Runaways on stage at Madison Square Garden. There will also be a panel “full of surprises and reveals.” Hopefully, any surprise sneak peak proves to hook viewers as much as the series did in 2015.

Titans premier kick-off

Titans, the first series to launch on DC Universe’s digital service, will kick off New York Comic-Con with a screening, before beginning its debut on the DC Universe as a gritty take on the classic Teen Titans franchise. Afterward, stars Brenton Thwaites, Teagan Croft, Anna Diop, Ryan Potter, Minka Kelly, and Alan Ritchson will join executive producers for an on-stage Q&A session.

Since the series hasn’t even aired yet, it’s difficult to know what to expect, or even hope for, from the panel. Though it may not be out of reach to dream about a live script reading.

The Gifted Season 2 first-look

The cast and producers of this domestic take on X-Men takes to NYC’s Javits Center with an exclusive first look at an all-new episode from the second season of The Gifted. Executive producers Matt Nix and Jeff Loeb, along with Amy Acker, Jamie Chung, Sean Teale, Emma Dumont, Coby Bell, and Grace Byers, will be there to present the latest episode to fans. Crossing those fingers and toes that there will be a Q&A and some merchandise giveaways.

DC and Marvel comic guests

Marvel Comics will be returning to the con with surprise guests, panels and giveaways. While it’s promised fans will be able to hear from the best-of-the-best writers, artists, and editors, the official guest list is not yet complete. So far, marvel creators like Aaron Lopresti, Nick Spenser, and Andi Granov are scheduled to make an appearance, along with DC comic masters Clay Mann, Agnes Garbowska and Tula Lotay.

It’s suspected that creators will offer sneak peaks for their upcoming projects and that there might be new announcements for Marvel’s Infinity Gauntlet series.

Marvel Rising panel and film screening

Marvel Animation’s latest all female superhero television breakout will make a glamorous appearance at NYCC during their Q&A panel, and the annual Marvel Animation Presents panel will return with exciting news from Marvel Animated projects. This could be an announcement regarding an upcoming film short or the creation of a brand new show.

Either way, the special screening of their television film, Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, will likely be the highlight of this event.

Gotham’s Last Horah

This is something DC fans will not want to miss, getting the chance to say a last goodbye to their favorite dark and creepy TV show. Gotham will make its last appearance at NYCC, as stars and producers of the FOX series join fans for their last Q&A to kick off its fifth and final season. Inspired by the “No Man’s Land” arc from the comics, heroes Jim Gordon and Bruce Wayne are among the last hope to save the city from total anarchy at the hands of Penguin, the Riddler, the Sirens, and other villains.

This is also fans’ last hope for closure, which could mean that the cast has an intimate experience planned for certain badge holders. But we won’t hold our breath too much on that one.

Marvel’s games premieres

Marvel Contest of Champions, Marvel Puzzle Quest, and MARVEL Battle Lines are all mobile games that guests will have the chance to try out for the first time. But, according to July’s San Diego Comic Con, Marvel Powers United VR stole the show, along with Spider-Man for PlayStation 4. It’s likely these games will make another appearance at NYCC, but more information is still to come.

DC Universe meetup and photoshoot

It’s exactly how it sounds. If you’re a DC cosplayer, and you’re attending the convention, this 5th annual meetup and photo shoot is practically a requirement. All the Supermen, Green Lanterns, Wonder Women and Flashes come together to play dress up and pose for the camera. Location of photo shoot has yet to be determined.

One of the more anticipated outfits of the weekend will probably be the groups of Teen Titans. Who doesn’t love a classic?

DC and Marvel merchandise

This list would be incomplete without mentioning one of the fastest ways a comic con enthusiast could burn through money. The Marvel booth (1354) and DC’s Entertainment booth
(SC01) will once again return with a full lineup of events touching all points of the superhero universe. Fans will be able to attend signings with their favorite Marvel stars and participate in special costume contests (such as the one listed above). The booths will be jam-packed with giveaways and exclusive merchandise, so get there early.

Though the specific merchandise and celebrity signings are not specified as of yet, we can all be sure that the 60 exclusive New York Comic-Con Funkos are high on everyone’s shopping list.
