Supernatural has had 13 season premieres so far. We’re four weeks away from the Supernatural Season 14 premiere. Each Thursday I’m going to look at something linked to the premieres over the years, looking at what the 14th premiere needs to beat.

This week, it’s all about the season premieres. I’m going to rank them in order from worst to best.

To be honest, this is Supernatural and it’s ridiculously hard to rank the premieres. They set up expectations for the season, picking up (usually) where the last season left off. In many cases, they pick up immediately after the finale while others will give us a year’s time jump.

Just where do the last 13 Supernatural season premieres sit in the ranking? Is your favorite in the top spot? Can Supernatural Season 14 knock off the winner? Let’s take a look at each one.

Season 7: Meet the New Boss

More from Supernatural

Considering Supernatural Season 7 is one of my least favorite seasons, it shouldn’t be surprising that the premiere is my least favorite. As much as I adore the use of Death and the fact that Sam’s hallucinations come out because of the broke wall, this premiere gives us the Leviathans. It gives us so much promise that it can’t deliver on.

This is an episode that certainly shows Misha Collins’ acting abilities, but we completely lose the Castiel we’ve come to know and love. Yes, that’s the point to show the Leviathans, but it doesn’t feel right and watching back I know that the season can’t follow through it with particular storyline well.

Plus, overall, this is one of those Supernatural season premieres that’s forgettable. I actually had to rewatch again to remember all the plot points!
