The key art for Supernatural Season 14 has been revealed. It’s time to figure out what it means.

Supernatural Season 14 is less than a month away and The CW is ramping up its promotion. With just four weeks to go, we’ve got the release of the key art for the season.

Key art is important. It needs to give us an idea of what to expect in the season, especially at the very start. This is used on posters, DVD covers, soundtracks, and more in the future, so a lot of work has to go into it.

More from Supernatural

Like all others, this season includes Sam and Dean Winchester. Castiel is also included, which has been the cast for a number of years now. We’d seen a poster shortly before the Season 13 finale that also included Castiel, making it clear that he was going to make it through the finale and be in the Season 14 premiere.

What’s interesting is the use of the light that shines up from the anti-possession tattoo on the ground. It’s reminiscent of Supernatural Season 4’s finale, as Lucifer broke free from the cage. Could this mean something will happen with the Cage? Could we finally see Adam released?

There’s a light smoke coming from the anti-possession symbol on the ground, which could be angel grace but could also be an off-color for demonic smoke. The ground around the symbol is broken, suggesting that the end of the world is coming.

The three main characters are also separated in the poster. Sam has a sad look, keeping his gaze to the ground. Meanwhile, Castiel stares towards the camera with his game face on. Dean, who is likely Michael!Dean in this image, is at the very top of the poster staring off to a point off-camera.

Hopefully, the release of the key art means that some images from the premiere aren’t too far behind. Other CW shows have had premiere episodes released already, with Riverdale being the latest, so Supernatural shouldn’t be too far behind.
