Oliva Munn is the underrated star of The Predator

The Predator is in theaters today, and actress Olivia Munn is the underrated star of the movie.

Critics have not been enjoying The Predator, based on their harsh reviews. With a score of 34% at Rotten Tomatoes, this chapter is clearly not critic’s favorite in the franchise. Fans of the series, however, are divided on how they feel about the movie, as the audience score is currently a perfect 50%. While some found the comedy approach in the movie to be refreshing, others miss the serious tone the movie series is known for.

Sure, The Predator is not as dramatic as other installments in the long-running franchise, but it’s just as dark and possibly even more action-packed than most. Director Shane Black made sure the movie contained plenty of adrenaline-filled scenes and Predator action. There’s also plenty of humor to lighten up the mood. But there’s a shining star in the film you shouldn’t overlook, and her name is Olivia Munn.

The Predator follows Quinn McKenna (Boyd Holbrook), a Special Forces sniper on a quest to kill the Predator before the creature gets to his son. But after authorities discover what Quinn has witnessed, they’re on their own mission to keep the alien situation a secret from the public by any means necessary.

On his journey, Quinn finds a team with a bus load of antiheroes, these include stars Thomas Jane, Keegan Michael Key, Trevante Rhodes, Alfie Allen, and Augusto Aguilera. The six men are then joined by Casey Bracket (Olivia Munn).

Casey is a scientist, but the quickest to jump into action from the group at any time. She’s fearless, intelligent, and saves the men a couple of times. Munn even has more screen-time than most of the men in Quinn’s crew. Yet, she’s hardly even featured in most of the trailers.

Is the sex offender controversy to blame? More than likely! If you missed it, Olivia Munn spoke up about a scene she filmed with registered sex offender Steve Wilder Streigel. At the time of shooting, the cast (including Munn) were unaware about Streigel’s. Once Munn learned about her co-worker’s history, she demanded the studio take action. The scene Munn filmed with Streigel was promptly cut from the movie, but the actress was left feeling disappointed no one else involved in the movie supported her or spoke up about it.

Shane Black issued a public apology for not giving his cast the option to “voice in the decision” to hire Streigel, but Munn wishes she had received a personal apology on the matter from the director.

Whether the controversy is to blame for Munn not being featured much in the promotional teasers and trailers, her performance in The Predator should not be overlooked! The cast is a lot of fun to watch, the action scenes are captivating, and if the movie doesn’t take itself too seriously, why should you? Check out The Predator and have a good time!
