Supernatural’s Jack is going to be learning how to be a hunter this season. But what are the things he needs to learn? We have some ideas.

We learned this week that when Supernatural returns, Jack will be getting hunting lessons from Bobby. Since he lost his powers, he’ll be starting from square one. It got us thinking about what sorts of things Bobby will need to teach Jack in their lessons. Here are some of the things we came up with.

Identifying monsters

Jack’s going to need to know all the different ways to identify all of the different monsters out there. Not all of them look like monsters. A lot of them look human. Bobby is going to probably need to sit Jack down with a flow chart with how to tell if someone is human or really a monster trying to blend in.

Jack needs to be stocked up with his holy water and silver, and a list of traits to look for. What does a werewolf, vampire or wendigo look like? How can you tell someone is really a shapeshifter? Professor Bobby has his work cut out for him.

How to kill monsters

After being able to identify the monsters, Jack is going to need to know how to kill them. Which monsters can you just shoot and it’ll be good? Don’t forget to cut off that monster’s head!

Jack is so used to showing up to a fight and magicking the problem away. He no longer has that option.  Now he needs to learn the nuances of how to kill each particular monster because if you don’t use the right one, the monster won’t be taken care of.

How to fight

Next, Bobby is going to need to train Jack how to fight. For the first year of his life, Jack didn’t really need to use any physical force to take someone down. He just needed to raise his hand and that was that.

Now, with no powers, Jack is going to need to learn how to properly fight. How to be both on the offensive and defensive. How to throw a punch. How to take a punch. Things that The Winchesters don’t even really need to think about anymore.

How to shoot

Jack is also going to need to know how to shoot a gun. This is a skill that he hasn’t had to rely on, and hasn’t needed to learn. Shooting a gun is basically essential in the life of a hunter. Especially when you’re needing to take out a werewolf with a silver bullet. I can already see the scenes of Bobby taking Jack out to some field for target practice.

Preventative measures

Salt. Devil’s traps. Anti-possession charms. All things Jack is going to need to learn now that he’s human.

Last season, Sam and Dean took him to get his anti-possession tattoo, and it healed immediately. Now that he’s human, it may be a good idea to try that again. Bobby should also give Jack a crash course in how to draw up a good devil’s trap and with Michael on the loose, some good old angel banishing sigils wouldn’t hurt either.
