The Conners adds Maya Lynne Robinson as series regular

Maya Lynne Robinson, has been recast as the role of D.J.’s wife and Mary’s mother, Geena, in ABC’s Roseanne’s spin-off The Conners.
The Twitter account for The Conners tweeted tonight that the role of D.J.’s wife, Geena has been recast. The original cast member for the role was Xosha Roquemore, but she will not be returning. Maya Lynne Robinson will be replacing her, so she’ll be the wife of D.J. and Mary’s mother, TV Line reports.
The role of Geena appeared in an episode of Roseanne, the ‘mother’ show, D.J. refused to kiss her due to her being black. So it’s very interesting on how Geena and D.J. are now married and have a kid. Geena was serving overseas in Afghanistan hence why we only saw her once.

I haven’t seen much of Roseanne, but hearing of this news is quite interesting. Having shows go full circle with their characters adds a nice touch and it makes it feel more real. As Roseanne’s character was killed off from the spin-off, it’ll be interesting to see how the show moves forward.
I’m not going to lie here, the more I hear about The Conners news and developments, it makes me want to watch it. I’ll be one of the viewers who will be tuning in to watch the premiere. Hopefully not many people have decided not to watch since Roseanne won’t be part of the show. Will you be tuning in?
The scene below looks interesting. D.J. doesn’t look pleased for some reason. Perhaps Geena and D.J. are arguing? Although, that wouldn’t be a smart idea, considering their daughter is right behind them.
Showrunner and executive producer, Bruce Helford said in a statement:
“We’re thrilled to welcome the incredibly talented Maya Lynne Robinson to the cast this season. Her character 2nd Lieutenant Geena Conner, whom a younger DJ was reluctant to kiss in his school play, comes full circle as his wife and Mary’s mother, bringing back a little piece of Conner history. Yet, while Geena is no stranger to the family, viewers old and new will enjoy seeing how her ‘military-style’ discipline meshes with the Conners’ more laid-back attitude.”
The Conners premieres on ABC on October 16, 2018.
